What is a prism correction?

Prism correction is a type of optical correction used to treat binocular vision problems, such as double vision or eye misalignment. It involves placing a prism, a specially designed optical element, in front of one or both eyes to shift the visual field and align the images seen by the eyes. The prism bends the light and changes the angle at which it enters the eye, allowing the brain to fuse the images from both eyes into a single, clear image. Prism correction is often prescribed by an eye doctor as part of a treatment plan for conditions such as strabismus, amblyopia, or after certain types of eye surgery.
